Seger's sustainability work

Read more in our sustainability brochure

At Segers, we think about sustainability from a broad perspective, but of course, much is about the product. From a sustainability perspective, textile production is both complex and challenging. We who work with workwear have a great sustainability advantage compared to the fashion industry, where throwaway culture often occurs. Workwear from Segers is used a lot and for a long time. Very much and for a long time!

Through careful quality and environmental work and full control thanks to our own factories, we ensure long durability and reduced environmental impact. We also take great responsibility for our staff in the factories by ensuring that the work environment is good and safe, and we provide employees with security in everyday life and the future.

Our promise

Modern and durable workwear is a must in the restaurant and healthcare sectors. But textile production is a burden on people and the environment. To take greater responsibility and lead the development towards more environmentally friendly production, Segers actively works with environmental issues.

Segers wants to be part of inspiring a better world and a more sustainable industry. We want to do that in our own way. Sustainability certificates are all well and good, but they do not always provide a real benefit for the environment. The most important thing is that our products are used a lot and last a long time.

When you buy a product from Segers, you buy a product that is manufactured, wash-tested, chemical-controlled, and reasonably priced – at every stage. Our products are made in our own production facilities where we know and take responsibility for the staff. And ensure that everyone has a good and safe workplace where taxes, insurance, and pensions are paid for security in everyday life and in the future.

We are proud to say that we do more than expected. But we still have a long way to go. We know it will not be easy, but it will be worth it.

Segers simplifies for the supplier

The EU's chemical legislation REACH's list of risk chemicals SVHC

(Substances of Very High Concern) are constantly changing and are difficult for individual suppliers to manage. Therefore, Segers works continuously and focused with suppliers to ensure that risk chemicals are not used in Segers products.

With Segers RSL (Restricted Substance List) based on REACH legislation, we ensure that these substances are not present in our products and that our suppliers have procedures to test the products they deliver to us. Segers also performs spot checks to verify that no prohibited or regulated substances are found in the products.

Segers also looks at alternative solutions for a more sustainable world. Cotton cultivation, for example, requires large amounts of water and burdens the environment in an unsustainable way. As an alternative, we have included Tencel™ (lyocell) in our range, which is produced more sustainably, and we use some BCI cotton to support the work on global and large-scale change of conventional cotton production. Recycled polyester is also included in our range.

OEKO-TEX Made in Green

OEKO-TEX® Made in Green is a certification that guarantees that the garment is free from harmful substances and produced with care for the environment and people. We are working hard to certify many of our products according to OEKO-TEX Made in Green. This guarantees that our products are free from harmful substances, that the fabrics are produced in the best possible way for the environment, and that sewing takes place under environmentally and socially responsible conditions.

Amfori BSCI

(Business Social Compliance Initiative) One of the world's largest sustainability initiatives to create more responsible supply chains. Amfori-BSCI is run by the Foreign Trade Association (FTA) in Brussels. In Amfori-BSCI, over 2,000 member companies use the same code of conduct to improve working conditions around the world. Segers Pakistan has been a member since 2018.

ÖKO-TEX STANDARD 100

An international measure of safety throughout the entire textile chain. The list of requirements contains over 100 parameters and is intended to ensure that the textiles that have passed the tests and been certified do not contain harmful substances. A large majority of Segers' range is certified according to Öko-Tex. You can see on segers.com if an item is Öko-Tex certified.

ISO 9001

International standard for effective and structured quality work. Using a number of fundamental principles, internal working methods are reviewed. Continuous improvements are made to increase efficiency and profitability. This ensures the quality of services and products. Segers is certified both in Sweden and in our factories in Ukraine & Pakistan.
