Our responsibility
Modern and durable work clothes are a must in the restaurant and healthcare trade. But textile production is a strain on people and the environment. In order to take greater responsibility and lead the development towards more environmentally-friendly production, Segers is actively working on environmental issues.
Segers wants to be a source of inspiration to help make the world a better place and the textile industry more sustainable. We have our own plan how to do that. Sustainability certification is fair enough but, quite frankly, it is not always of real benefit to the environment. The most important thing is that our products are manufactured the right way, right from the start, and that they last a long time.
When you buy a product from Segers, you buy a product that has been manufactured, undergone washability tests, checked for chemicals and been reasonably priced – at all stages. Our products are manufactured in our own production plants where we know our employees and feel responsible for them. We ensure they all have a good and safe workplace where taxes, insurance and pensions are paid to given them security now and in the future.
We are proud to say that we do more than is expected of us but we still have a long way to go. The process is not easy but definitely worth it.
Segers makes it easier for suppliers
The EU Chemicals Legislation REACH's list of risk chemicals SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern)
It constantly changes and is difficult for the individual supplier to work with. Segers therefore works continuously and focused with the suppliers to ensure that hazardous chemicals are not used in Segers' products.
With Seger's RSL (Restricted Substance list) based on the REACH legislation, we ensure that these substances do not appear in our products and that our suppliers have routines for testing the products they deliver to us. Segers also carries out random samples to check that no prohibited or regulated substances are found in the products.
Segers is looking at alternative solutions for a more sustainable world. For example, cotton growing needs huge amounts of water and is an unsustainable strain on the environment. As an alternative, we have introduced Tencel™ (lyocell) into our range, which is produced more sustainably and uses some BCI cotton to support the work with global and large-scale change in conventional cotton production. Recycled polyester is also included in our range.

OEKO-TEX Made in Green
OEKO-TEX® Made in Green is a certification that guarantees that the garment is free of harmful substances and produced with care for the environment and people. We are working hard to certify many of our products according to OEKO-TEX Made in Green. This guarantees that our products are free from harmful substances, that the fabrics are produced in the best possible way for the environment and that sewing takes place under environmentally and socially responsible conditions.
